Biography

Dody Soetanto is a conductor, baritone, and vocal coach based in the Netherlands. Originally from Indonesia, his background brings an additional layer of richness, energy, and musical expression to every ensemble he works with. He works across a wide range, from early-music ensembles to large symphonic-choral forces, and what connects it all is his attention to the voice: how singers produce sound, and how that sound blends in a room.He is the founder and artistic director of VOKALISK, a sixteen-voice ensemble based in The Hague, with singers from all over the Netherlands. He also conducts the Groot Concertkoor Amsterdam (GCA), the Vrije Universiteit Koor (VUkoor) and the Leids Kamerkoor (LKK), and regularly works with professional baroque ensemble ConcertoValiante.Recent projects include the world premiere of the opera CODES with VUkoor at the Opera Forward Festival (De Nationale Opera & Ballet), and preparing the GCA for Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with Het Orkest Amsterdam at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.Alongside conducting, Dody teaches and coaches singers. He has also been invited to speak at conducting masterclasses, including the renowned Kurt Thomas Cursus in Utrecht.
